Exploring different types of animation
The stop motion videos that I explored was the different ways you can create stop motion. This includes clay animation, pixilation animation and cutout animation. The main animation projects that come to mind are from films. Most films now are pixilation animation and not stop motion anymore because it takes a long tome to create a film with that level of expertise. To adapt this into the classroom the more assessable types of stop motion animation is Lego, clay, and object animation. In the classroom we used object animation. This is a great starting point for stop motion in the classroom, the objects could be brought from home or in the classroom they used their desk pets and created a story with them.
Experience with year two cohort
Our year two cohort lesson on stop motion animation went smoothly regarding the planning portion of setting up and going through creating the short clip. The main issue was the app we used because it was the first time using the app and the uploading portion of the video was the hardest part of the project, but it got better once we learned how to use it.
Experience with third grade class
The third graders were very excited to learn and create there stop motion video with student teachers. They were willing to share their ideas with there group and asked us what we thought about there ideas for the stop motion video. There ideas were very thought out and creative, but the group had a hard time agreeing on a topic and one voiced there opinion more than others and eventually went with there idea and did not take in the other group member’s input. In the future I would have had them plan out as a group and write down what they were creating instead of them creating their ideas in one video and them having the video in the end not make sense because their ideas were clashing, and the storyline did not make sense. They wanted to have big ideas display on the video and to the adults in the group the story line did not make sense and the objects were moving fast in the video, so it looked unfinished. But the children seemed to have fun and worked well together. One participates in out group was shy and I could tell that they were nervous sharing their ideas because they thought it would get turned down by the other members actively going with their own ideas and not excepting other group members ideas.
Differences between classes
Difference between the grade three classroom and our classroom. One of the main differences between working inside a classroom with third graders and our own class is the experience level. Most of us in class have some concept of stop motion animation and have learned about storytelling. Third graders may not have been taught about how to create a story or be comfortable with working with a group that have different ideas and can not communicate what they want to do
