If mind map is hard to read I have providied below what each category states

Pedagogies

  • All pedagogies explored throughout this project has helped me understand how the traditional education system has stayed the same for so many years. Most schools do not want to change their approach to school because it is too much change. The way I have looked at the pedagogies can have big change over time and small change to the curricular connections.

Curricular Connections

  • I wanted to focus on school subjects to show outdoor education can look like in a traditional school system and there should not be as much push back to take your class outside. Growing up in the traditional system when it was a pain to take your classroom outside seemed like a lot of stress for the teacher. That was because they did not teacher their class outside. They let them have restricted play like the playground.
  • The connections can be across more than two subjects as well. Find a concept that relates to as many core subjects and then try to take it outside.

How it went

  • This project added my learning so much. I broadened my perspective on outdoor education and the locations you can take them too. In can be an outdoor playground, the school field, or a recreational area like the community forest to integrate outdoor education into everyday schoolwork.

Why I choose this topic

  • I choose this topic because I have a passion for outdoor learning but was not sure how to incorporate the topics into a traditional school setting. I remember working in a school where the teachers and admin dreaded taking there class outside for physical activity because they children were not contained in a room like a gym. I disagree with that aspect of learning because I felt like children need to be outside more during the school day. I wanted to learn how to incorporate going outside as much a possible through the core subjects to encourage students to want to go outside to learn.

What will I use in the future.

  • I intend to use these pedagogies as much in my future classroom even if we do not go outside. I want an open mindset on how to teach and not be so focused on one subject at a time because they overlap. If you have the mindset to teach the concepts not the subject the students learning will go a long way.

Important Resources

These links and references are from what I have gathered from educational resources, websites, and podcasts.

The outdoor learning store is based in the Columbia basin and a few highlights from this site is that they have The Earthy Chats Podcast, books, online learning workshops, and other educational resources. Check this website out for more outdoor educational resources.
