What is a Digital Portfolio
A digital portfolio is a great resource for student teachers. It can help organize past projects for future employers to see our work and what we are passionate about in the teaching world. As well as some personal background about us. This can be as simple as hobbies and interests towards where you work, live, and family life as well. Depending on how you want to share on the internet is up to you.
What does it look like in a classroom?
How this will look in a classroom setting can be through a school portal like google classroom or apps like Seesaw and connect with parents about what the students do during the day and if there needs to be any reminders for recess or field trios and they need to bring clothing for the weather.
Google classroom can have a presentation about yourself and to introduce yourself towards the parents and students before the first day of school. This can have benefits for children or parents who are nervous to start school especially if they are new to the area or it’s the child’s first time in a classroom. This can help them with anxiety or nerves before school. And help the teacher as well, if the parents can see a digital portfolio about the teacher and what the classroom will look like for the year it helps build communication and relationships with the parents and teacher before school starts and if there are any children who have diverse needs or allergies the parents can communicate with the teacher before school if they are able.
Using a platform in a classroom
I envision using a platform to communicate with parents before school starts to build a relationship with the families in my classroom. This can be a PowerPoint or post though an app like Seesaw to chat with the families before school and if there are any diverse needs I should know about before school. This can be allergies to something, if they bring an inhaler for asthma, or if I need to start building an IEP for students.
The Graphic below shows a great starting point for creating a digital portfolio. It is more in the brain storming phase and other thongs to add can be avatars, photos, or images about yourself. As a student teacher I will expand my portfolio with teaching styles, curriculum focus, and Classroom management as I learn.
